A wheel stop is used to prevent parked vehicles from accidentally running away.  

Like buffer stops, wheel stops are also divided into branking and fixed designs. They are operated manually, by motor or automatically by the train. On braking designs, the braking force is varied according to the operating conditions or built up in stages.

Priority areas of use are at loading points and stabling facilities as well as in workshops.
